First Class of the Semester Introduction

 Hi all! 

My name is Lena and I am from Philadelphia, PA. I am a very adventurous person as I am always up for trying new things and going to new places. I love to travel and plan on going on a backpacking trip through Europe when I graduate. I am also an avid plant lover who worked the Philadelphia Flower Show over the summer (the second-largest plant show in the world). An interesting fact about me is that when I was a junior in high school I helped build a school in Nepal with a non-profit organization called buildOn. Since I have come to Tampa for University I have also gotten more into Dragon boating as I have joined the local club Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Club after having raced with Philadelphia Flying Pheonix in both their youth and premier teams. 

I was definitely scared going into the first day of class as one of my friends took it last semester and ultimately dropped out after the second week. Since everything was hybrid last semester I saw her struggling in the class and trying to figure out the assignments for hours on end every day. Knowing what she had to do definitely had me worried because I know I'm not going to be much better. After the first class, however, I feel a little better because I have more knowledge of what will exactly happen in the class. I also feel more comfortable that the class is fully in person since that means more time with the professor and really getting to see how things should be done. 

Some things I expect from this class will have to be a better knowledge of digital media. I know I am not too familiar with everything that we will be using so I am happy that I will get to learn how to use it. This knowledge will definitely help me in whatever specific career I choose when I graduate. being able to create websites and other digital aspects will definitely also be good just to have knowledge of as our society is digitally heavy.

Somewhere Project

  For the Somewhere project, I decided to choose a scene from the movie Baby Driver. This scene is very iconic as is one of the best movies scenes that does not have dialogue yet tells a whole story. I decided to use this specific photo from the scene as there was space for me to put a photo of myself in without disrupting it a whole lot. When taking the photo of myself I tried to make it so I wasn't taking away too much from the scene.  Overall this project was difficult as it took me a while to get the cut out perfect and to make sure that the photo was positioned correctly to make it really look like I was in the scene. It also took some time to get the coloring to be similar to the original photo. This project took me around 2 hours to create as there were some areas where it got tricky. I however really like how it turned out.

Business Cards

  I really enjoyed this project as business cards are very important when you want to make connections with people. The first business card I made was the black one with the yellow logo. For the front of the card I decided to put the logo on the left and my name, major, and contact information on the right. For the back of it I just put the logo in the middle. I chose to make the background of the card black to make the yellow stand out. When creating the text I decided to put my name in white to make it stand out and then did the rest of the text in yellow so that it went with the color of the logo.  The second card I did was the pink one. For this one, I chose a dark pink background so that it went with the pink logo yet let the logo stand out more. I did the same layout as the first card yet this time only put the ad/pr part in a lighter pink to match the logo. I also used a different font to make it a little more mature and fancier.  The last business card I made was the blue one.

Autoscopy

  For this autoscopy project, I decided to have a space and flower theme. For the background, I took a photo of Outerspace off the internet and used the magnetic lasso tool, mask layer, and brush tool to make it look like I am in Outerspace. I also used another space like photo on my skin. When putting the space photo over my skin I decreased the opacity so that you could still see my face. I used the same tools as I did for the background to fit the photo on my face and neck. To add to the Outerspace theme I also added a moon, Saturn, and another planet. This added color to the photo rather than just having black and purple. When adding the Saturn I also changed the hue and saturation to make it blue rather than the original color of brown. I added the flowers to make the photo creative and different. I decided to do purple flowers because I felt like that went with the Outerspace photos.
